Warcraft Cast Announced at Blizzcon

On a very exciting day at Blizzcon 2014, Blizzard Entertainment revealed the cast and characters of their upcoming 2016 live-action film Warcraft.

Duncan Jones who directed Source Code is at the helm of the project and co-wrote the script with Charles Leavitt. The film is set to release in 3D on 11th March, 2016.

The film – parts of which were shown at the con to much fanfare – focuses on the conflict between the Alliance and the Horde; and according to Blizzard the film swims in the grey and aims to make the audience empathize with both factions.

Travis Fimmel, who plays Jarl Ragnar Lothbrok in The History Channel series Vikings, was announced as the lead protagonist Anduin Lothar from the Alliance side. A sacrificing war hero, he is the bullhorn of Azeroth and he is pitted against Durotan (played by Toby Kebbel).

Chieftain of the Frostwolf Clan, Durotan is the hero for the Horde. Driven to the brink of extinction, he battles the Alliance to save his family and his people.

Torn between the two warring Titans is Paula Patton’s Garona. A survivor, her character is befuddled about her true allegiance and plays an interesting part in the conflict.

Dominic Cooper has been given the role of King Llane Wrynn. Stormwind is his residence and he rules the Alliance city with all fairness – providing hope to a people consumed by despair.

Ben Schnetzer plays Khadgar, a mage who is very young, gifted and curious. His character travels far and wide to know the truth.

Clancy Brown is Blackhand The Destroyer. His character is titanic and is feared by one and all as an unparalleled force amongst Warchiefs.

Ben Foster plays an aloof and mysterious protector called Medivh, known as The Guardian to many. He is a wielder of immense power but also bears great wisdom.

Rob Kazinsky, known to play roles that require a lot of muscle, was selected to portray the Orc warrior Orgrim. Orgrim is an important character who is a right hand to Durotan and is touted to wield the legendary Orc weapon The Doomhammer.

Ruth Negga will play the lover and Queen to Dominic Cooper’s King Llane – Lady Taria. She is the king’s most trusted counsel and his source of hope.

And lastly Daniel Wu plays the haunting Orc ruler Gul’Dan the Supreme. Gul’Dan possesses a magic so dark and so wild that he fails to seize control of it and this makes him a force to be feared.
